In New Delhi, a special cycling event was organized by the Russian Embassy in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Cyclists to mark two significant anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and the 78th year of diplomatic relations between India and Russia.
The rally attracted cycling enthusiasts, diplomats, and members of the Indian Cyclists Association, all coming together to honor the sacrifices made during World War II while celebrating the strong ties between the two nations.
Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India, took part in the rally and described it as a meaningful occasion for both reflection and celebration.
“It was a wonderful experience. We cycled alongside the Indian Cyclists Association, and it was heartening to see so many participants. Today’s ride is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory of numerous nations that fought against Nazism during the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War, which spanned across various regions, not just Europe,” he shared.
Alipov emphasized India’s crucial role in the global war effort, stating, “Two and a half million Indians served in that war, with many sacrificing their lives for freedom. This date holds great significance for the people of the former Soviet Union and Russia.”
Discussing the India-Russia relationship, the Ambassador expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties, saying, “Our relationship is progressing well. We have a long-standing partnership that encompasses various sectors, including the economy. Our political relations are stable and friendly, and I am hopeful about expanding our collaboration with new projects each year.”
The cycle rally served as a powerful reminder of the historical friendship between India and Russia, reinforcing their shared commitment to peace, cooperation, and mutual respect.
